South Tangerang Presidium: End the Pilkada Controversy

Ahead of the South Tangerang Regional Election (Pilkada) hearing to be held by the Constitutional Court, the Chairman of the South Tangerang Presidium, Rasyud Syakir, hopes the controversy surrounding the election will be resolved soon. He believes that South Tangerang must begin development immediately to prevent it from reverting to Tangerang Regency. Rasyud stated that the people are eager to have a permanent mayor and deputy mayor. Therefore, he hopes the Constitutional Court will deliver a fair ruling. "We long for development. End this election controversy, because the people of South Tangerang voted on February 27, 2011. The proof is the increase in voter turnout compared to the initial election; this is the voice of the people of South Tangerang."

Meanwhile, Endang Hadrian, lawyer for Arsid and Andre Taulany, stated that his team has also made all necessary preparations. "We are currently preparing the data on the results of the re-election (PSU)," he said. Endang declined to elaborate on the data he will present to the court. However, he acknowledged that he has prepared all his analysis of all stages and processes of the South Tangerang City re-election. "Basically, only what is necessary. We will not reveal anything unnecessary. Things like the re-election process, the violations that occurred, and the mistakes made by the defendant and related parties during the re-election," he said. According to Endang, he will accept whatever decision the Constitutional Court makes, and that it will be the best decision for the people of South Tangerang City as a whole. "We'll just leave it to the Constitutional Court. We don't want to speculate. But of course, we will provide all the information we think needs to be disclosed during the trial."

Hendra Samuel Simorangkir, also known as Sammy, filed an objection to the public prosecutor's indictment at the first criminal hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday afternoon (April 22, 2010). The former vocalist of the band Kerispatih was on trial as a defendant in a drug possession case. "(The public prosecutor's indictment) is wrong," Sammy said. However, the panel of judges advised Sammy to take his time in assessing the prosecutor's indictment and to consult with his legal team first.

The Public Prosecutor's Team, AR Yamin and Silvia Dasti, charged Sammy with illegal possession, storage, control, or provision of narcotics in the form of white crystals weighing 0.3366 grams in a plastic bag or abuse of narcotics for himself. The white crystals turned out to contain methamphetamine so they are included in the list of class one drugs called crystal methamphetamine. The Public Prosecutor stated that Sammy obtained the crystal methamphetamine by purchasing it from Neny Susianty alias Boy on February 1, 2010 in front of a bakery on Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Central Jakarta. Boy was tried in a separate case. Sammy bought crystal methamphetamine to be consumed in his boarding room on Jalan Pedurenan Number 62, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on February 2, 2010, with a homemade smoking device. Sammy's activities were discovered by three police officers. When the raid was carried out, there was another person in Sammy's room, namely Regina Andriane Saputri binti Sentot (now the defendant). As a result of this action, the public prosecutor continued, Sammy could face up to four years in prison under Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"Sammy's legal team objects to the prosecutor's indictment. There is something (in the indictment) that we must refute," Jongki Simorangkir told the panel of judges. Therefore, the legal team needed one week to prepare their objection. Therefore, the panel of judges decided that the next hearing, with the agenda of submitting objections, would be held on Thursday (April 29, 2010).
