Creative Idea Used Without Permission: Papa Zidan Engages Lawyer Endang Hadrian to Issue Legal Notice
Jakarta — Indonesian comedian and content creator Papa Zidan, widely known on TikTok for his popular catchphrase, "Mathematics is Easy and Fun, Isn't It? No, It's Not!", expressed his frustration over the alleged unauthorized use of his creative ideas by a government health institution and a well-known online learning platform for promotional content on Instagram.
According to Papa Zidan, numerous videos containing his original creative content have also been reproduced and distributed on YouTube and other digital platforms without his permission. The alleged unauthorized use prompted Papa Zidan and his manager, Heru BosBro, to consider legal action to protect his intellectual property rights.
"I've become discouraged from creating new content because government institutions and a well-known online learning platform have used my creative ideas without my permission. This is a form of plagiarism and disrespect for creative work that must be addressed so that creators are not harmed," Papa Zidan stated to the media on 29 May 2022.
Following the incident, his manager advised him to pursue legal remedies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Heru BosBro subsequently recommended that Papa Zidan appoint Dr. H. Endang Hadrian, S.H., M.H. as his legal counsel.
Responding to the matter, Attorney Endang Hadrian stated:
"We will carefully examine the facts and legal aspects of the case. If it is established that Papa Zidan's creative work has been unlawfully copied or plagiarized, we will immediately issue a formal cease-and-desist letter. Should the matter remain unresolved, we are prepared to pursue all available legal remedies."
The matter concerns the protection of intellectual property rights and the enforcement of legal protections against the unauthorized reproduction and commercial use of creative works under Indonesian law.
